Who we are

Xaquixe comes from the indigenous Zapotec dialect meaning “by the mountain.”
We are a glass innovation studio focused on creating blown glass of exceptional quality.

We are pioneers in the use of renewable energy to heat our furnaces. We use waste cooking oil collected from local restaurants and bars in the city of Oaxaca. This up cycled oil reaches the 2100o F temperature required to blow glass. Solid waste collected from filtration of the oil is processed in anaerobic digesters to produce methane gas which is also used to fire our furnaces. Using the waste oil reduces the contamination of local water systems when cooking oil is dumped in the sewer. We use 97% recycled glass in our proprietary formulation with only 3% of additives to produce glass with a crystal-like transparency and vibrant color. Each piece is made by hand and reflects the artistry of the maker. All of our glass items are placed into a computer controlled annealing oven in order to lower their temperature through critical stages, increasing resistance and stability in the glass.

Annealing processes typically can run from 10 to 24 hours depending on the type of product. When the annealing is done, the glass items undergo a quality control process before being packed.
